In my remaking of The Balcony, I focus on Manet’s theme of seeing and being seen with a contemporary twist, having my privileged protagonists interact with the world through their telephones and social media. In my work, phones are not only important as content in the picture but as a process, in taking the picture of myself and my classmates and using photoshop to rework the painting. In fact, the end product could be a social media post (as I indicate with the hashtag).
